Unhappy I need to recover a PowerPivot query from a corrupt xlsx document

I need to recover the query text from my Excel document. I'm digging through the zipped structure of the xlsx file and am trying to find the text of the query to try to salvage it... . It took a lot of work to construct, and I don't want to have to rewrite it. Does someone know what internal file contains the query or how I can recover it from a corrupted xlsx file? I don't need the results (which are huge) - I need the actual query text.

    It's stored in /customXml/itemxx.xml

Use Windows Search tool and look in files for "DataMashup".

Then create a new Excel file. Change file extension, to zip. Extract to some location.

Create /customXml folder in it. Copy itemxx.xml file into it. Zip it and change the extension back to xlsx.

EDIT: When I saw query. I assumed it was PowerQuery. If you mean data model and DAX for PowerPivot...
Try copying connection.xml along with All pivotCacheDefinitionX.xml into new file as above.

Thanks. This is from a query I added via Get Data>From SQL Server Database> (custom query with the selections "Create Connection only" and "add to data model"). The text in that query (rather than all of the PowerPivot and data-modeling formulas).

Ok then first method should get you to load it to new workbook and copy out the query.

Is this going to contain the actual text "SELECT …"? I don't see it in those files.

It’s encrypted, so you need to copy it to new workbook see the content. Follow my instruction.
