Hyperlink seems to be persistent after use

I have a workbook with many sheets. The "main" worksheet contains a column with a list of the other worksheets. Each of the worksheet name cells on this "main" worksheet contains a hyperlink to allow the user to easily navigate to the particular worksheet of interest. This "main" worksheet is a essentially a sheet of summary data so most of the cells are locked and the worksheet is protected so the user cannot mess up the summary data. But there are several cells on the "main" worksheet that are unlocked and editable.

Here is what is happening to cause me to come to this forum:
    > I click on a hyperlink on the "main" worksheet and the system correctly navigates to the proper worksheet.
    > I go to the bottom of the Excel spreadsheet and then select the "main" worksheet tab to be viewed. This works as expected.
    > On the "main" worksheet tab, if I click on one of the unlocked cells then everything works as expected.
    > But if I happen to click on one of the many locked cells, the system seems to have the hyperlink still in the command buffer and the system hyperlinks me back to the other worksheet.

Is there a way to clear the command buffer to prevent this from happening? The consumers of this worksheet are managers and other people where telling them to just not click the locked cells is not really an option.

Thanks in advance for any advice you might offer.
