I think I have messed up my Excel application and cannot figure out how to undo or correct it.
I'm running Excel 2011 on OS X High Sierra (10.13.6) on a late 2012 Mac Pro.
Here's the symptoms:- - All of the VBE commandbars (toolbars) except the first 4 have lost the first character of their names. For example, "Object Browser" toolbar name appears as "bject Browser". Here's the code to produce the listing and the results:
- - Probable cause: in attempting to learn how to create a toolbar for the VBA commands I use the most, I first wrote a routine which restored the "Edit" toolbar to default, then another to modify the "Edit" toolbar to delete the controls I didn't want and then copy the controls I wanted from the "Standard" and "Debug" bars. I played with that for a while till I got it where I wanted it. Then I created my own custom toolbar and copied all the desired controls to it. I'm not sure when the commandbars lost their first characters, but now that's what I see.
- - In an attempt to repair the damaged commandbars, I have uninstalled and re-installed MS Office three times. I have AppCleaner installed and it offered me the option of deleting a number of application support files, which I accepted. It has made no difference. This, of course, means AppCleaner has not cleaned up everything.
- - After uninstallation, I scanned /Library and /User/Chuck/Library for any files that remained that had "Excel" in the filename and didn't find anything that looked like it was the culprit (I examined them with Hex Fiend to see if anything jumped out at me, be nothing got my attention.
- - I took my application to another instance of Excel 2011 under Parallels 15.1.4 (El Capitan v.10.11.6) and the names of all the commandbars were correct, so it's clear to me that I've clobbered one/some critical Excel files.
- - Short of completely reinstalling the operating system, is there anyway to correct the problem Excel/Office file(s)? Alternately, is it really a problem? Will the pop-ups, context menus, shortcuts work anyway?
Thanks for your help,
Chuck
