    Optimizing material usage

I'm trying to optimize and reduce waste of two different materials that vary in length, but get combined. Width of both is the same. For instanxe, I have one that typically is 250 +/- 50 feet long, while the other is 400 +/- 100 feet long. They vary with every roll, but I know going in what the length of each is. I'm having a hard time coming up with a method of inputting the different rolls and optimizing the # of each to use, minimizing how much is left over which will become waste. I'm also constrained to 3000 feet per batch.

    Any help appreciated!

    Re: Optimizing material usage

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

See the yellow banner above - without sample file and and some manually calculated results we hardly can help. Some similar recent problems discussed here are: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-pro...th-orders.html https://www.excelforum.com/excel-pro...-in-range.html etc. But it seems you have a slightly different situation. So ... follow the hint in a yellow banner :-)
    Best Regards,

    Kaper

    Hi Kaper,

Thanks, I think I can make the 2nd linked application work to fit my needs. Thanks for the input, and for the work you did in that thread -

I think you will need Excel Solver to solve your problem.

See attached for my Excel Solver setup.
