Excel 2010 new Workbook not showing in VBA Project explorer

Hi All,
Editing this post for clarification / with new information I have found out.

I have some code that downloads an excel file from SAP.

In excel 2013, once the file is downloaded and opened it works exactly as expected.
In 2010 I am unable to interact with the new downloaded/opened file from my original Macro.

In 2010, when the downloaded file is open, i cannot see it in the VBA project explorer. (where as in 2013 i can)
Exiting the macro does not make the file appear in the project window either.

I can interact with the file while it is open, and I can open its own VB editor that shows the workbook by itself. (but it does not show the workbook that my macro is contained in)

Does anyone know why for 2010 I i am getting independent VBA windows?

workwook and worksheet have the same name, i.e., ExportFileNameVar?

Yes they do, and the worksheet is not cutting off any of the string :/

Does ExportFileNameVar include the file extension?

It does not - but I have file extensions turned off
