Get current PC volume level/state

Hi Everyone,

I'm using the following API to manipulate the volume to a predetermined level. There's a timer which changes it periodically.
This work's well, but you can see on the screen when the change occurs because a volume slider pops up.

Is there any way to check the current volume level/status first so I can choose not to make the adjustment and avoid having this pop up show unnecessarily?

win DLL api's don't have returns, I don't think. not that I can remember. I may be wrong though. yours doesn't though, apparently. so it doesn't look like you can. but curious, why is this even included?

Yes the shellexecute isn't relevant to this query; got selected by mistake during copy.

Thanks for your reply. It's confirmed what I'd suspected. I've managed to locate an old vb6 class module I got from codeplex which I might try and press into service.
