Problems importing, saving and modifying XML

Hi folks,

I have some XML I need to read, modify, and save for a model railway configuration application.

Reading in the XML and letting Excel create the map seems fine.

If I could programmatically create a table to each of the three elements in the xml - MergModules, UserEvents, and UserNodes would make processing this easier in my mind but I'm not sure how to do that.

Excel refuses to export the xml I get a message "Cannot save or export XML data. The XML maps in this workbook are not exportable."

Trying to figure out how to resolve, or even if resolution is possible, has just led to a stream of incomprehensible documents around the web.

I'm trying to do the work in Excel rather than a programming language as Excel is great for the actual configuration piece visually, is familiar to many users, is already installed for many users, and does not rely on the user installing something new on their machine.
