Question ActiveX controls - Display of captions are shrunk really small.

I have a workbook with 8 or 9 sheets that I've been working on for a few years. Some ActiveX controls, such as Command button, Checkbox and Textbox, have their caption (and the actual checkbox) displayed all scrunched up in a tiny font (as if it were shrunk to fit, perhaps). The workbook started life in Office 97 then Excel 2010 and now 365. I think the problem first showed up in XL 2010 which is still my favourite for edit /display, but the problem continues in 365 (Personal).

The font is Tahoma or Arial, 8 or 10pt. I can find no particular situation or usage that triggers it - the controls look fine for months, then scrunch up for no discernibile reason. The Textbox (to enter string for search) was the first to give this trouble and I've replaced it with a new control a few times!

Currently I have 2 controls (out of 6, total) on one worksheet that are suffering. Both of these are replicated in a very similar 2nd sheet (for different data) where they are displayed perfectly well. One has wordwrap another not, one has the caption set in code.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help, Phil.

This is a common, and long standing, problem with ActiveX controls. The usual solution, assuming you can't replace them with the more stable Form controls, is to use code to resize them when the workbook opens.

Thanks for your reply - I tried it manually, and a nudge up (& a nudge back down) did the trick; thank you.

I can't believe I didn't do a move or re-size before I gave up and replaced an afflicted TextBox previously (it wasn't playing up this time). Could this input text be different and harder to fix than control captions?

Unlikely - they are generally the same issue.

OK, thanks again. I'll keep a utility routine with the workbook and see how it goes. :o)
