Outlook MailItem.Send fails when email address domain contains a hyphen

I have a routine in Excel VBA which sends emails through Outlook. It works beautifully except if the email address domain contains a hyphen. This generates an unrecognized name error at olMailItem.Send.

If I change .Send to .Display, it functions correctly to create the email in Outlook and leave it open for the user.

I am hoping to figure out a workaround to get this to function automatically. Any ideas?
