Cool Create a form that has set cells of data that is NOT meant to be altered.

    ..

    Good afternoon all

My brain has gone into overload today looking at you tube tutorials on how to create a form within excel.

My question is Can you create a form that has set cells of data that is NOT meant to be altered.

I understand that you can make drop down data cells etc, but what I have is a file that has certain
rows of information that does not need to changed.

I have been looking for sample videos all they show so far is how to create a form for cells
    that can be changed..

If anybody can point me in direction of such training vid's I am more that happy to chase it up.

    Cheers, and thanks for looking.

An 80yr old willing to learn

    Re: How to create forms

    ..

    Good afternoon.

As you may be aware I have been working on program for some time now,
Yesterday 2 persons looked at my file and suggested that I should have
constructed it in a form manner, I could put what I have up here and ask if
someone would look at rebuilding as a FORM.

This morning I spent some hours perusing the net as how to construct a form,
so far all I can find is how to put a form into a file.

I would like to have a crack at building myself IF IT fails then I will go down
the track and ask for help.

I trust you can understand my reasoning.

    Regards

    Peter

Re: Assistance as to where I can find tutorials on Form creation.

Peter - this is the title you need (your new effort is really no better):

Create a form that has set cells of data that is NOT meant to be altered.
Please change it again. Remember, your title needs to be specific to your issue, NOT generic.

If you are still dissatisfied with my amended Title, I would ask
that you please delete the thread and I will put it into the too hard basket.
It's not about the difficulty of the question, it's about appropriate titles.

Once the title is amended again, we can proceed.

Forms for data entry require VBA, so I've moved this to the VBA section.

Re: Create a form that has set cells of data that is NOT meant to be altered.

So Peter...Another big project you have taken on...I assume you are referring to PM's and this thread here

I suggest starting with your Template creation...
Get rid of all the merged cells, unnecessary hidden rows and all extra blank spaces, all drop down validations and all sheet event code...
This will make it easier to code the Template Population from Userform
With a Userform Interface, none of the above is needed...
Have a look at attached Template - an example instead of your current...Feel free to make amendmends to colours, fonts, etc...
One you are happy with the Template, then the coding for UserForm can begin...I prefer to keep all the controls on a Userform to default names...This easily allows for looping and array population of information...

I hope for your sake, members will be prepared to offer insight and assist with your learning process...

Re: Create a form that has set cells of data that is NOT meant to be altered.

set the textboxes on your userform to enabled = false - you can display the data but not alter it (alternatively use labels)
leave all your controls with their default names - (do not give them fancy 'meaningfull' names) - as you progress you will see that you can reduce your code by this method.
    Torachan,

Mission statement; Promote the use of Tables, Outlaw the use of 'merged cells' and 'RowSource'.

    Note to all:

Can you PLEASE keep everything in the thread and public? This thread and others will be of no use to members in the future if conversations about it are missing because they took place via PM. Please remember that the forum rules preclude asking for help via PM for this very reason.

Thank you all for your co-operation, and a Happy New Year!

PS I know that some of you think I'm a pain in the butt, but we need to make sure that you and future members are all able to get the best out of these forums. Thanks.

    @ AliGW

Noted...Just to clarify and for all to be on the same page...In the thread linked in Post 11, I merely suggested that Peter look at UserFom Interface for this project...His PM to me was just an enquiry as to how he should proceed with this...My advice was to start another thread and get advice from it's members...

Thanks for this clarification, but as I said, it really would be better if Peter kept everything in the open. I know from past experiance that things can become mightily confused when people start flitting between PMs and threads. I've said this to Peter several times before when he's sent me PMs.

As I said, it's about keeping the whole thing coherent. I hope everyone understands.

Good afternoon Mr Sintek and All looking

Overnight and today I have pulled the ORIGINAL Form apart and itemised
on a WORD document inclusions and requested changes.

On the original sheet I have marked each of the cell locations, so they can be referred
    to in the Table.

Attached are the Amended Sample file and a word Document.

Any problems PLEASE do not hesitate to get back to me.

That is a BIG BIG NO as far as as merged cells etc

I would NOT do that to you for all the time and effort you have put into the file for me.

Just what is it that has ruffled your feathers please.

I asked the Girl in the office re the Cell H4 that bit of info is a must have.

Is there anything else I can help you with, please

Re: Create a form that has set cells of data that is NOT meant to be altered.

    Pete...No more PM's please...As per AliGw request...

It's like I said...You need to do things the right way from the get go...Hence my suggestion on getting rid of all those darn merged cells, blank areas, hidden rows etc etc...

I gave you an example of how you should set up your Template...
There is nothing wrong with suggesting changes as long as you keep to the format...I am merely trying to help you with setup when it comes to the code creation for data population...

You only need 1 Template and from the Userform selection, the template details can be altered to change...depending on what your selections are...
i.e. Load Plan Trip to become Load Plan Trip 1 or 2 or 3 etc...
One can even just populate the Trip Data Sheet First with the required no trips for the day and then write some code to populate the Template for each trip and print out...

Look at the code in the [Process Button] to see what I mean...Look at the available selection drop downs on the Userform...All details can be made available in the Form for selections...The sheet is merely a Template...No formulas no sheet code etc etc etc...

Thank all that have looked at this thread.

Unfortunately although a lot of help has been forthcoming, and for that I am truly grateful,
to proceed any further is beyond my limited knowledge of Excel & Forms.

As a result I reluctantly will close this thread as Solved.

Peter...Opening another thread to inquire how the code in this threads sample file works is wasting time...

Look at the attached...I have coded for the first 16 entries of Load Sheet Template & Trip Data - Highlighted in Yellow
Don't see why you need a Y or N for Container...If the boxes for these are populated then surely it is a Yes? Anyway left that out...
Populate all the boxes and press [PROCESS] - This will give you an idea how to populate Template from Form...

Re: Create a form that has set cells of data that is NOT meant to be altered.

    ..

    Good Morning All

Thank you for looking at this Reopened Thread.

Unbeknown to me Sintek had uploaded a revised file and Information data,
After I had conversed with " AIl" on sheet 23 of this thread.

Attached is a file is " LOAD PLAN FORM " with revised layouts as per the users requirements.

The second File is " Trip Planner Master In Progress"

In " Trip Planner Master In Progress" My request the Cell Highlighted in RED (C5)
is the Date Selection, It has a pop up Date Calendar, The user has requested
that they have the option of being able to have selection of a date in advance, eg:
They quite often program jobs on A Friday ready for the next Working day which maybe a Monday.

The "Trip Planner Master In Progress", Has this option and if possible I would like it
be available on the " LOAD PLAN FORM" file Please.

On the " LOAD PLAN FORM " Sheet the area for " Label8" I request the FONT size be increased
and in RED and the background be coloured in " YELLOW "..

I trust I have explained the changes OK.

    Many Thanks in advance ..

This question is related to the Sheet 26 above.

If anyone can please advise as to how to add multiple horizontal lines
inside a textbox of a Form.

My search on line is very confusing.

@Dave - which other thread? If you are referring to the fact that this has been "reopened", what Pete means is that it was marked as solved, but now the solved tag has been removed.

If you mean the thread asking for a code explanation, it's here: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-pro...des-works.html

@Pete - we are beginning to get a proliferation of threads again, and this is not desirable. Please keep EVERYTHING in this thread. Thanks.

See updated attached file...Click in Date Textbox...Have only moved your calendar and code over...
Still find calendar date selection a waste...when one only needs to enter a date and force the entry format...

Why has this thread been marked as solved again??? I have removed the solved tag.

@Pete - you are making this all very confusing indeed for everyone involved.

KEEP EVERYTHING HERE. Any further threads will be closed.

Please note This Thread is also appears on the Ozgrid forum site
    under the same Title.
I am not sure just how to do what you have requested.
I can find no such thread on OzGrid, however, if it does exist, then you know very well, Pete, that you are meant to post a link to it and yes, you do know how to do that.

No further replies to this thread, please, until Pete has posted a link to ANY cross post threads on this subject on any other fora, or confirms that they do not exist.

    ..

    To All Concerned

When the Forum Moderator here advised that things were not OK here I went
back to OZgrid and marked the file closed with the comment " This thread is closed due to duplicate threads "

This afternoon I had a look at my printed copy of the rules here and noted
Rule 4 " Do not post a new help request in an existing thread "

In regard to Rule 3 Re posting a link to other sites, I do not know how to do that procedure,
rest assured If I did I would have complied.

The reason why I opened this thread up again was for a question in regard to this thread.

I am looking for guidance here please, If I want to ask a question about inserting lines into a TextBox
where should I post that question, so I don't run foul of the forum rules.

    Awaiting guidance.

PS How do I go in getting commercial help please

Re: Create a form that has set cells of data that is NOT meant to be altered.

    @Pete

    1. A thread on the same issue HERE is a duplicate thread - not allowed. A thread on ANOTHER FORUM on the same issue is a cross post - allowed, but you MUST post a link to it (yes, you do know how to post a link - just copy and paste the URL from the browser address bar).
    2. Rule #4 is about asking for help with something unrelated in the same thread - in your case, everything is related to the VBA you need for your current project, so opening lots of threads is not appropriate. You have been told here and via PM by me to keep everything in THIS thread.

The issue with the lines on the textbox is all related to this project, so deal with it as an aspect of this thread. This way, all your VBA helpers know what's what and where they are.

This is not the first time that I have explained the rules around duplicate threads and cross posting to you: I did so in significant detail during your racing project, not that long ago. Please let me know if, having read this, you still don't understand it.

We are still waiting for you to post a link to the thread on OzGrid (required, whether or not that thread is open).

PS How do I go in getting commercial help please
    See here: https://www.excelforum.com/the-water...-services.html

However, be aware that you can either post in the free forum or in Commercial Services on this issue, but not both. If you choose CS, then this thread will be closed.

    Hi all

I think I have successfully posted the Link on the OZgrid message.

I refer back to my sheet #27 on this thread.

Because it relates to the current thread that is why I posted the question here.
    Right or wrong please. ??

    Please advise

Thank you. I have removed the HTML tags, which are not needed for a link.

Please confirm that you have now understood my advice and instructions surrounding duplication of posts, cross posts and issues related to your current project.

Yes, as has been advised several times today. Ask your question about the text box here.

Have you read my sheet #36 please and understand what frustrations I go
through by NOT being able to remember a lot of things, that a healthy mere mortal

I have sent you a PM. This is not to be discussed here, as it is irrelevant to your thread. Please respond to my PM if you wish to discuss it further.

Any further posts to this thread should be about your current project. Thanks.

    Good Evening All

Firstly let me thank SIntek for his modifications,

However the "FORM " program is placing the DRIVERS NAME in the wrong cell in the "TEMPLATE."

If it can be fixed it would be appreciated

    Regards

Now I see...That is because you changed the Template Sheet...Did not notice this previously...
I set it up that way so that the code could flow easily with the loop...

If you insist on your changes then this works...

    ..

    Good Afternoon All

On the Template sheet I have added a new cell into locations B8 & C8.

This cell shows the TRUCK MODEL linked to the vehicles registration.

In cell C8 I have created a simple VlOOKUP code that works fine.

I also added a column to the "Trip Data sheet " column AS, titled "Truck Model ".

My question here is where is the coding that copies the information from the USERFORM
across to the Template and the Trip Data sheets please, so I can add the new data .

    Sample form attached

Sintek original file save and a copy renamed " Sintek Potholes (2).xlsm "

    Thanks for looking

Re: Create a form that has set cells of data that is NOT meant to be altered.

After I posted a help please sheet I realised I can achieve What I want without any VBA.

Your posts are becoming more and more confusing...Have no clue what you are saying...
Also you do not reference any of the supplied solutions to above requests...

I'm so over this thread...Good luck...

    Sintek

I could not totally remove the Sheet so I had to put something in there.

It was that I used some formulae to solve my question as opposed to

    Many Many line of questions..

    Sorry for any confusion.

I notice now that the above was edited...

    Peter...
You keep on making changes to your old Template...Is this the template you are going to make use of...
If not and you are taking advice by making use of the proposed new Template...Then...
I suggest you edit the new Template with all required changes - also ensure that the trip Data headings correspond in order with the Template data for easier population...

Once all that is done then perhaps someone can offer full requirement instead of cluttering this thread with proposed changes...
I personally think this is time for commercial services as it is out of your scope of expertise...

Re: Create a form that has set cells of data that is NOT meant to be altered.

    Good Afternoon sir

When I got the phone call last night re an addition I said no more as it is causing me and the helpers some headaches

The sheet that I had originally put up quite a big help request with a lot of info as to how to get
the required data for the truck model about 5 minutes after I thought of the VLOOKUP function.

I am seriously looking at paid help from what I can see it is $20 USD, per month.

I am sure the project is coming to a close I just need to work out adding the additional parts to the USERFORM

MANYMANY Thanks for you great help and patience so far.

    Kindest Regards

    Peter

    ps
Question \re the paid help who is generally does it please. ??

No - you buy points and spend them as you see fit. There is no subscription.

Question \re the paid help who is generally does it please. ??
It would be one of the members who has access to the Commercial Services section (Gurus and above).

Re: Create a form that has set cells of data that is NOT meant to be altered.

In effect you buy points at the following rates:

    https://www.excelforum.com/payments.php

It's then up to you to decide how many points getting an answer to your individual Q is worth. (5 - 100 points seems to be the norm). If a potential helper thinks you're offering too little, they'll tell you.

Those that are eligible to help are Gurus and above... but not all those who are eligible contribute in Commercial Services. I never do, nor (I think) does Ali, for example.

I have a couple of times, but the amount you get after the forum owner's cut isn't worth the effort. There is a handful of regular CS contributors, and they are usually pretty quick on the draw.
