    Inserting shapes

    Hi everyone !

I am trying to use excel to type music notation. I place a dot above a note to indicate upper octave and a dot below the note to indicate the lower octave.

For the dot, I am using a really small circle shape. The problem is, it is getting very difficult to place that dot accurately every time.

So, what I am looking for is, a shortcut key that will place a predetermined shape (a small circle) on top of the first character present in the cell.

And another shortcut key to place the small circle shape below the first character in the cell.

I am attaching a sample of what I did.

I will be very grateful if anyone can kindly help me

    Regards.

Here's the simple code I used:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
I then assigned Ctrl+Shift+T to create the top dot and Ctrl+Shift+B to create the bottom dot. See attached.

    Re: Inserting shapes

I have made a mistake in my question.

If each cell has one note, the above method is working. But not when there are multiple notes per cell.

For instance, the first note in a cell may require a dot on top and the last note a dot on the bottom.

So how to make it such a way that the shortcut is applied to the selected note ?

I will double click on a particular note, and on pressing ctrl + shift + T , a dot will be placed on the top of it.

I apologies for not thinking it through before asking the question.

    Regards.

    Re: Inserting shapes

Ah. That's a more difficult question. Since each letter can have a different width, getting the shape directly above or below the selected letter would be tricky. If you could restrict each cell to having a single letter and centre the text, there's a small amendment to the macros that could be done.

    Oh, I see.

I will first try using the new method you have suggested.
