Opening a Word document from Excel file creates (hidden?) copies of excel files

    Hi!

I have already posted this question here, but I haven't got any answer sofar.

I am having problems opening a Word document from Excel file. I am using the code below to open a Word document.

In this Word document (which I'm using as some kind of report file), I have links to data in the Excel file. These links are updated when I open the Word file, and this works fine.
The problem is that when I run the above code, additional copies of the original Excel file are created (at least I think so). These copies do not open and are not visible in the Excel application. However, when I close the original Excel file, the Excel always asks if I want to save the changes for those copies as well. I have also noticed that additional projects (always 9 additional projects) are created in the Visual Basic Editor (please see the below picture).

I would like to know why this is happening and how can I prevent it?

I can't recreate the problem at my end with that code.

There could be other code in your workbook causing it OR i notice that the word file is a macro file, could there be a macro in the word file that is causing it?
If things don't change they stay the same

    Thanx CheeseSandwich for your reply.

I don't think the code is the problem, but I don't know why whenever I run it, nine (9) Excel files are created. I have managed to locate these files - they are in two folders:

    "C:\Users\usrename\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\ IE \7SCW6Q0Z" contains 4 files.

    "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\ IE \XTMMVNHV" contains 5 files.

All files have the same size and name (the only difference being the numbers at the end of the files names).

If I delete both folders, they are recreated when I run the code. I'd really like to know what is happening.

Well it is not the code you have posted so it must be something else as suggested.

Code in the word file, other code in the workbook?

I don't have any other code in the workbook. In the Word file, I have a macro that updates the links, calls the macro to export from word to pdf, and then closes the word. The code is like this

As far as I can see (but I'm not a VBA expert!), there is nothing in the code that would cause the described behavior.

Hmm that is strange, Have you got anything listed in the Excel: 'At startup, open all files in:' box setting?

You can find it in: Options/ Advanced/ General section

Sorry for the late response, I was away from the computer for a few days.

I checked the settings and there is nothing in the box.

Could this behavior be due to the fact that I recently moved both files to the OneDrive folder so I can access these files on different computers?

    Hi
My first thought is equal to yuor last guess.
Did you work on multiply computers at the same document?
I saw something like this with excel and word files which I did close/savejust before I did open it at another device using onedrive or iCloud. The synchronizing was to slow for this document.
