Matching Correct Box Item Numbers Based on Lookup

I don't really know where to post this or if its even possible. So I'm a baker making products for local customers in my area. I calculate the items I need to bake by putting orders into excel to total them up. I'm making set boxes for the first time and I wanted to know if it was possible to have an item like 4th Of July Box, and when I put 1 into the cell it will add the correct number of products per box into the cells. (See picture) I can also attach the actual file if needed.

So when I put the 1 in the 4th of July box cell I want the above cells filled in with the corresponding numbers so I can tally the end of how many pasties are need in total for all the boxes... This is hopefully going to save me from manually adding each item. I do have some customers getting 2-3 boxes so if it could increase as I put 1, 2, 3, etc and the items doubling, tripling etc per the box quantity. I'm not sure if this makes sense. I don't really know enough about excel to know if this is even possible. Thank you for any input on this. I've been trying to figure it out for weeks. Thanks in advance!

    Attachment 784883

The blue is where I'd like to put the box input and the red is where I'd like for the output quantity per product to be above in the red circle.

I don't really need it done for me I just need to know what this type of function is classified as so I can further research it. Thank you!

    Welcome to the forum.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook.

A good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data that has been desensitised. It also has expected results mocked up, worked examples where required, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

    Administrative Note:

Your thread title does not really convey what your request is about. Tell us what you are trying to do, not how you think it should be done.

Please take a moment to amend your thread title. Make sure that the title properly explains your request. Your title should be explicit and not be generic (this includes function names used without an indication of what you are trying to achieve).

Please see Forum Rule #1 about proper thread titles and adjust accordingly. To edit the thread title, open the original post to edit and then click on Go Advanced (bottom right) to access the area where you can edit your title.

(Note: this change is not optional. As you are new here, I have done it for you this time.)

Unfortunately, you haven't done it correctly and the attachment is reporting as invalid. Please try again using the instructions in the yellow banner at the top of the page. Once I can look at the workbook properly, I shall have further questions for you.

EDIT: It has now appeared correctly - I am taking a look.

Mmm ... That hasn't really helped! Where will I find a list of the items that are included in a July 4th box? I am not clear how you expect this to work exactly.

A reminder: a good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data that has been desensitised. It also has expected results mocked up, worked examples where required, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

Re: Matching Correct Box Item Numbers Based on Lookup

I'm looking for the information of how I can put a 1 into a cell - and then have it automatically populate the numbers I have per pastry box per item.

I don't need specifics for this specific box, I just need to figure out how to do this generally so I can customize it as needed for future projects. Is this considered a macro? Can I use the record action feature to do this? Maybe I'm actually too new to know how to even explain this. I'm sorry

Re: Matching Correct Box Item Numbers Based on Lookup

Yes, I understand that. And it COULD be done with a formula, but it depends entirely on how the workbook is being used.

For example, is it possible that someone will ALSO in the A1 column manually enter other items for this order?

We will need to know EXACTLY how this sheet is meant to work, otherwise we haven't a hope in hell of being able to advise you.

It might require a macro - I don't have enough information yet to be able to say.

I don't really know enough about excel to know if this is even possible.
This is the problem, yes, and as you have no previous experience, what you are probably asking is going to be beyond your capabilities, so you are going to need to have someone build an example for you to follow. For this we need specifics.

Re: Matching Correct Box Item Numbers Based on Lookup

Okay so hopefully this will illustrate the indented use of what I'm looking for. I wouldn't need to have the ability to add more to each order (column) other than the generated set quantities per box. I apologize for being so ignorant with using excel.. maybe I just need to go through several basic courses and figure it out.. I don't think I understand enough to even ask what I need.

Re: Matching Correct Box Item Numbers Based on Lookup

OK - this is very helpful.

If the ONLY manual input will be the box numbers (row 11), then we can set up a formula to fill out the item details.

I have set up an example of how this would work using this formula:

    =IFNA(VLOOKUP($A3,$A$36:$B$39,2,0)*B$11,"")

I suggest you have a good look and then come back when you are ready to ask questions and/or try to scale this to work in your actual workbook.
