    Imported text files aligning data

    Hello all hope everyone is having a good day,
    Ok my issue that I am having is that I am importing report text (.txt) files into excel so the employees can take the information and convert into charts and such. what I am dealing with is sometihing like this, it is broken down by item and lists all the purchasing information below it.
    a...........................b.....................c..........................d
    1 item id.................plner................buyer...............req date
    2 1234.....................me....................me...................01/01/05
    3
    4 po#...................supplier...........qty....................promise date
    5 P->abc123.........the store.........5.......................01/05/05
    6 P->def456.........abc store.........10.....................02/06/05

    OK I need row a2 infront of rows a5 and a6 or something like that. And there is no consistancey, other than the basic format.

    Thanks for the help everyone,
    Bob

    Not quite understanding what you're after, but let me start with a couple of questions:

    How are your text files delimited (space, tab, comma, other)? In other words, how do you want excel to identify a column break in a given row?

    2nd, I don't quite understand what you mean by "a2 in front of a5 and a6?" Are you trying to get it to delete rows 3 and 4 in your example?

    I am wanting row 2(example) to be copied infront of every row until it gets to the next item

    My report reads awful it has the
    Item ID and the general information across the top,
    then underneath each item it lists all the order information directly below it.

    0008380-003 ASSY-CBL,NON-MD Fran Pl02 04/04/2005
    PO/Job# Supplier Name QTY Promise Date
    P->1038490 BRITECH INC 15 04/25/2005

    and it continues through all my items.

    I want it to read like
    Component Buyer Planner Date Req'd Po# Promise
    0008425-100 Fran Pl02 04/04/05 P->1090285 05/27/05
    #N/A #NA #N/A #N/A P->1090285 05/27/05
    #N/A #NA #N/A #N/A P->1090285 05/27/05
    #N/A #NA #N/A #N/A P->1090285 06/20/05
    #N/A #NA #N/A #N/A W->RWMM49 04/21/05

    Ocourse with the component buyer planer and date req'd filling in where the #n/a are. The reason it is like this becuase I sarted writting formulas to do this.

    Hope I didn't confuse more,
    Thanks for the help,
    Bob
