How do I format a specific column of cells to have a limit aount of characters?

    Hello,

I'm trying to format a column of cells to a specific format (Right Click --> Format Cells --> Custom). I'm just a little confused about the syntax. Is there a way I can make a cell like so:

Can only be 6 characters, and if the data is out less than 6, it should append a space for each character to get to 6.

    Thanks!

Can you give an example of how you want it to look?

You may want to check the system date on your computer. Your question was
    posted in the future.

    Exclamation

    Thanks for responding Barb.

Column A (6 characters max, place space as a filler if you don't reach 6)
    abc(space1)(space2)(space3)

My goal is to format this worksheet so that when I save as a txt file, each row in the worksheet will be "one string" of data formated a specific way based on the format of the columns of each cell.

    I hope this makes sense

    Thanks!
