Excel 2000 file types have been changing.

I've got both Excel 5.0 and Excel 2000 installed on my Windows 2000
    workstation.
I've noticed that after opening a spread sheet that had been created using
Excel 5.0 the excel file types have been changing back to Excel 5.0. I'm
using Excel.exe /regeserver to make Excel 2000 default(also have disabled
    Excel 5.0 by renaming "C:\Program Files\Office42Excel.exe").

I have been using "ftype" command to check the file types.
Before running Excel.exe /regserver, "Excel.Sheet.8" was pointing to
    "C:\Program Files\Office42\Excel.exe" which is Excel 5.0.
After running Excel.exe /regserver "Excel.Sheet.8" is pointing to
    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" which is Excel 2000.

I've notice that When I've opened an Excel spread sheet that had been
created using Excel 5.0, files types have been changed and most of the Excel
file types are reverted back to "C:\Program Files\Office42\Excel.exe".

As I mentioned earlier, this is happening only once( first time).

Do you think I've missed any thing?

As I recall Excel 5 always redoes the file associations when it starts.
Good thing MS stopped doing that in later Excels. I have no idea if there
is a way to stop that. Time to 'move on' surely and get rid of Excel 5.
