    Error opening Excel with macros

Heya folks - newb to this forum here.

I am in the process of creating a little excel workbook with macros. Most of data in the file is VBA, with only a few cells in the sheets actually used. I am using Excel 2000. I saved the file yesterday, and all seemed normal. I tried to open it today and i get the following message:

EXCEL.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log had been created.

To my dismay, I can't seem to get access even to the VBA code so that I could copy-paste it into a new sheet. I tried looking at the file in a hexeditor thinking I could get the raw data of the code and copy paste it, but that too looks pretty cryptic.

Although I dont have too many hours invested in the file (maybe 4-6), it is a pain to consider to recode the work especially since that part was working good...

These excel recovery tools only seem to grab the sheet contents which I could care less about...

    any advice would be appreciated.

    thanks

It does happen to several of us ...I am sure ...
My suggestion ... shut down and restart your computer ...
    you will recup everything ...

no luck on the reboot Carim. I've even had my wife try to open it from home on 2k3 Excel. She did get further with the process, and it reported all kinds of weird things... but on a positive...
I just noticed that there were also some files which were in the same directory but didnt have any extension... they looked rather spurious. However upon further inspection, they happened to be nearly the exact file size as my excel program itself. So I added the XLS extension, and tried to open them... the first one gave the exact same error, but the next worked!! Huzzah! Although it wasn;t the latest version, it looks like I only lost about 15 minutes worth of coding. That's much better than starting from scratch!
They must have been some kind of backup file? I never noticed that before.

As a follow-up, I now recall an issue with VBA - when working with it on a network file... if the network gets mixed up, the file tends to be unsaveable...
I just recieved a message to the effect that 'Excel cannot save document'.... and it all comes back to me now... don't work from a network...
    lol
