Automatic updation of workbook without any manual intervention

i hope someone can help me with this:

I have got an excel workbooks having some macros and links with another workbooks.
I have put the file on the shares and needs to be updated once a while.
Is it possible that the file automatically runs a macro or updates at a certain point of time without any need of opening it? e.g i just place it somewhere and it keeps on updating (or running a set of macros) itself.

help wud be highly appreciated!

you can use the application.ontime functionality in VBA to call the macros at specified time intervals.

i have already used this method but if i close the excel application then the file doesnt update automatically. I want the file to be updating and executing macros even if the application is closed.

So far as I've seen, you need to have a program open to be running macros.....


If you have another office program that you are often in (Like Outlook or Word for example), you could potentially create a macro in outlook that would be able to execute in excel.
