Ping a host and save the result to a cell

    Hi There,

this may be totally ridiculous but I was hoping someone could help me construct a spreadsheet which, when a button is clicked, it pings the host in a given cell and returns the results in corresponding cells.

    I am using XL2000.

    Cell A1 = Hostname
    Cell B1 = Reply 1
    Cell C1 = Reply 2
    Cell D1 = Reply 3
    Cell E1 = Reply 4

So for example in cell A2 is the value 'google.com'. I click my button and get four ping replies. Don't care what format but it could be something like in cell B2, C2, D2 & E2 it says 'YES'.

    Is this possible at all.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    John

    Good morning johncassell

    Good news : Yes
Bad news : It's very difficult

Not sure of you're skill level here, but you're into serious API territory here, and when you see the code at the link below to do a "simple" ping you may well decide not to bother!
