    Problem with Macro Recorder

I cannot get the macro recorder to record code for opening or saving files, whether they are text files or excel files. I know it should be able to do this as I accomplished this a couple of years ago, and everything I have read says I can do this.

Essentially, I start the recorder, then open a file or save one. I stop the recorder. On opening the macro, I just get a blank macro.

    Am I being stupid here?

Did you go back to the original workbook that you recorded the macro in

    Thumbs up

Thanks for the responses everyone. I tried to record the Macro on a different computer... and it worked no problem. I can only assume the old computer I use at work is gradually rotting away. The only other thing it could be is that I use Excel 2002 at work and 2003 on the computer I successfully recorded the macro with, but I don't think this is the issue from what I have read.

    Re: Problem with Macro Recorder

I had a similar experience to you; remembered recording a macro which opened various programs etc only to find I couldn't do it later - apparently Windows used to provide such a recorder as standard but don't anymore. This means that as soon as you are beyond what is possible in excel (or presumably word, outlook etc) it is unable to record. If anyone can recommend a good replacement for the Windows macro recorder then I would be grateful to hear from them.
