Greying out some cells ?

Hi all,

Is there a way that i can grey out cells in excel ?

I know i can format the cells and say locked and then protect the worksheet.

But is there any other way?

Because i want the cells to be only greyed out and non-editeable , but not pop up error message when user tries to select it.

Can anyone please help me with this?
