Countif using an indirect in the criteria

    Hi folks

I need a countif formula that will coiunt the number of words in a given range that contain a certain letter.

The letter changes so i wanted to use an INDIRECT function so that i could amend the letter and the count would then change its criteria.

    =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"*"&INDIRECT(B1)&"*")

    that was my attempt?

    hope thats clear enough.

I think you don't need the Indirect() part...

    =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"*"&B1&"*") should do it.
Where there is a will there are many ways.
