send instant messages using excel list

Hi,

I am wondering if it would be possible to automatically send instant messages to a list of people whoses contact details are stored in an Excel sheet?

I have Outlook and Communicator.

The excel spreadsheet checks who is using a certain application and I want it to automatically send an instant message to the people using the application at certain times during the day.

The only way I can think of doing something even approaching what you want, would be to write a VBA macro that would run every time the spreadsheet recalculates.
This macro would check the current time against the list of times for messages and, if a message is due, produce the message in a pop-up box.
The disadvantage of this is that if the sheet was just sitting idle, no messages would be produced. The messages would only appear when something in the sheet was changed, or F9 pressed.
