Can you link multiple files to a parent file...

...so there is an automated update for the multiple files? Ok, I have an Excel 'Master" file that contains data that serves as a copy for all of the other individual "Client" files. My company has created a color coding system for organizing the "Client" files data, but I need the "Master" file to update when I change any of the "Client" files, and then have the "Master" file update all of the other "Client" files. In other words, I have files- (A)_(a)(b)(c).

Now when I change (c), I want it to update (A), and then have update (A) update (a), and (b). My concern is, I don't just want a re-copy of the Excel document, I want just the new information added to the other documents, because I still want to keep the information on (a), and (b) but need to add the new color data without disturbing, or replacing the file.

Any thoughts? Concerns? Is it even possible? (anythings possible, right?)

Wow! and Why did you choose MS-Excel to do this? My thought is that you should be using a database (MS-Access will work quite well for this). Instead of managing parent and child worksheets you would manage a single database. If your client needs an MS-Excel sheet then this can be generated from MS-Access.

Having incremental updates move from Parent to child and from child to parent in succession would be nasty to implement in MS-Excel.

Thanks so much. I do believe that I have it now. I took your advice and used the call actions inside of a single database, and it works great. By the way, I am using MS-Excel because that is what I have, and this is an internal process that we are trying to implement so that we will stay more organized with our client's files. We can't really afford to buy new software if we can't bill anybody out for it, so we will use what we got.

    Thanks

I totally understand that. I too work in a consulting enviornment and well, if we cannot bill for it, well we dont get it! Sounds like you have a plan of attack which is great to hear.

    Good luck.
