    possible:Data filtering

    Hey guys,

I was just wondering if it is possible to have a filter box in one worksheet (worksheet 1), which filters the corresponding data in another worksheet (worksheet 2), as apposed to having the filter box and data in the same worksheet.

    Thanks,

    Ben

Check out this example, if it is what you want maybe we can work on it to fit your workbook
enter one of these words in he blue box, it will filter the data in sheet1 and paste it in sheet 2
    TOMATO
    CHEESE
    OLIVES
    pickles
    rice

    Hi,

Maybe with an event macro which is triggered when you change cell A1. Right click sheet 1 > select view code > paste in the below

It assumes the criteria is in Sheet1 cell A1 and Filtering Sheet 2 Col A

With the method used in the example file, would it be possible to change the data entry method to drop-down lists instead of typed entry? Also, could it be modified so that more search criteria could be specified e.g. year, month etc. Finally, could the filtered data be displayed in a seperate worksheet to the worksheet with the filter options?

    Thanks,

    Ben

I still think a PivotTable is what you need. Can you attach some sample data?

    Select items for a filter

    Hi,
Here's a sample of Ben"s workbook, I have not been successful with PivotTables, maybe you will be able to use a pivot table way for what he was asking for,
Enter the info to filter in the first sheet
the filtered data ends in the filtered sheet,
well when you look at the code you will see whats happening.
