Conditional Formatting - More than 3?

Hi there,

I would like to introduce more than 3 conditional formats between A1:AL34 e.g

A = red
B = yellow
C = pink
D = green
E = purple
F = orange
G = blue

I do not seem to be able to successfully adapt the following code I have found + this code does not remove the colours if the cell value is removed which I would ideally like.

I'd be grateful for your help.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately I could not get your suggested code to work but I have got the following to work.

My only problem now is that the code works if I directly input "A", "S", "M", or "MS" into A1:AL34 but in reality A1:AL34 are LookUps. As a result, the code does not seem to work.

I'd once again be grateful for your help.
