add-in menu fails to drop down on alt+letter

    Hi all,

I use this as a basis for creating menus for my addins: http://www.ozgrid.com/VBA/excel-add-in-create.htm. I like how easy it is to manipulate - menu items can be moved around as little modules. Unfortunately, this method means that Alt & (the applicable letter, as designated with '&' in the control caption) only has the effect of setting focus to the control, not executing (i.e. causing drop-down).

When I manually add custom menus they don't suffer this problem so I can only assume it's some setting somewhere, and that it is not specific to custom menus, but instead is to do with the menu creation methodology - but I don't know where!

If necessary (i.e. preferably not) I can change the methodology of creation - but it would be great if anyone suggesting that could point me towards any good tutorials they are aware of?

I have limited experience with command bar controls so I think my terminology might be a little off, please ask me to clarify anything.

    TIA

    CC

I think you need to post your code or at least an example to demonstrate your problem.

    Sub-menus etc. removed...

Once added, Alt + R has the effect of setting focus to the "Really useful tools" menu - but doesn't make it drop down (execute?)

A menu added manually does drop down on alt+letter.

    Any ideas anyone?

If you have multiple menu items visible with the same shortcut key, then pressing the shortcut key will not actually drop that menu down. Pressing the shortcut repeatedly should cycle the focus through the items with the same shortcut key.

It should work like that! What happens if you press Alt+R twice? (Do you have the Drawing toolbar open for instance?)

    Angry

    *big fat blush*

I keep the drawing toolbar on the right hand side of the workspace so hadn't noticed the "Draw" flicking on and off discreetly whilst I grumbled at my machine... what a dunce!

As far as I'm concerned, the sooner this thread gets deleted from the board the better - it's burning a hole in my ego!

Thanks very much romperstomper - you could have been much less delicate than you were.

Been there, done that! I have the Drawing toolbar docked at the bottom of the screen and have been known to forget it's there... Glad to help.
