Editable cell reference on selecting a control or object

Is it possible to insert a control or object in excel (2003 & 2007) such that on selecting it, the user is shown a cell reference something which can be modified through the UI itself?

Excel charts have a similar technique wherein on selecting a chart a boundary appears around the data set of the chart and the user can expand contract or move the boundary by dragging at its edges and corners. Can we harness the same technique through some other object or a control perhaps?

    Something like this, perhaps :

The only other way I can think of (if I understand you correctly) would be the RefEdit object which is available as a tool when designing a userform.

Actually i want to be able to resize the range by simply dragging it. This technique allows me to specify a range but if i want to modify it then i have to give the entire range again.

The way charts operate is something real neat wherein they mark a boundary around the data set and u can simply drag the boundary to expand or contract it. Is it not possible to do it in that way?

No, because in the case of regular data the constraining factors are row height and column width. The only way to "resize" the info is to use the zoom tool (View > Zoom) or alter the parameters on printing. There is no function in Excel to do what you are requesting.

In that case, is it may be possible to make a new object by inheriting it from charts such that its able to do the same selection thing but i don't want the user to be able to perform the normal chart tools on this object?
