see the attached file.
you can hide cels J1 and J2.
they are used to store reference to either "Dog" or "Cat" lists, depending on which button you click.
hope it helps.

Thank You Very much, this will work perfect.
Sometimes I think I'm too old for this stuff, today Modytrane fixed my problem for me and I messed it up trying too understand how he did it. Not sure what going on with J1&J2. For the life of me I'm lost. All I did was rename a colume on sheet 2 I think. I just need too know how this works and not having anybody do my work. I'm retired and trying too learn something new. This is a great site for help and examples. Here is my bad example, maybe someone will know whats wrong. The one modytrane did is perfect.
Thanks
Hello zplugger,
I rewrote your command button routines to change the validation source range. All the changes here have been made to the attached workbook. I deleted 2 ranges and added 2 new ranges: Cats and Dogs. Cell "C11" is now the only cell with a formula. The formula only does a Vlookup in columns "A" and "B". Here is the code for the command buttons...
