VLOOKUP...no columns just commas between numbers

I do know how to use the VLOOKUP function but for this I am at a loss. I am importing information from an external source into a simple table that looks like this
Cards
Player 1 14,26,7
Player 2 3, 4, 5

Each of these values has a corresponding 'real' value and by setting up a table and VLOOKUP those real values would be returned if they were in separate columns. The problem lies in the fact that I am having real trouble splitting the data into separate columns because they are fed individually 1 minute apart from the external source. Text to columns function isn't working for me perhaps because I am doing something wrong or is it because the data is static. The first value is returned correctly but once the second is fed NA comes up as VLOOKUP does not recognise the start of a new value is there a way around this. The data is refreshed in the same table every game thus previous game is cleared for the beginning of another. Hope this is clear. thanks for your help.
