    Recovering code from corrupted workbook

Is this possible? Somehow, my file got so corrupted that the only thing that shows when it is opened in Notepad is a bunch of nonsense characters. I have n idea how this happens, but it has happened a few times now. The file is saved on a flash drive because I work on it on two different computers depending on the time of day. I always make sure to safely remove the drive and do all that stuff that is supposed to keep your files safe. The first time it happened, I had a backup copy that was somewhat similar to hat I had. This time, however, I saved my backup to the same location as the original. I have other files with macros in them in the same location but they are unaffected. I still have the backup that I used previously, so all is not lost, but I have nonetheless made many changes to that code. The code is now quite complicated and would take a lot of work to redo. Therefore, I would greatly appreciate any help that can be offered. Thanks.

That is not an .xls file - it's an .xlsb file with the wrong extension. Change it to .xlsb and then open it with 2007 or with the compatibility pack.

That worked! It was an Excel 2007 binary file. After downloading a file format converter from Microsoft, Excel opened it! Praise the Lord! Thanks so much, you just saved me a lot of work!
