macro assigned to a form control button in a protected worksheet

    Hi guys,
i finally have my excel database sheet working just as i want it (well almost)
i can sort the entries manually by way of the auto filter which works fine even if the worksheet is locked.
i can assign a macro to a form control button which also runs the auto filter but this only works with an unprotected worksheet, if i protect the worksheet then clicking the button returns a runtime error 1004
    A) is this normal
    B) can we get around the problem
    C) would an activeX control button be more suitable (if so how do i assign a macro to it?)

i know...i know...... i ask too many questions!

    Ok, i sorted it.
Just expanded the macro to include unprotecting & reprotecting the sheet.
