    Color Blank cells

    i had a worksheet with data running into 30,000 rows.i want to color the blank cells according to the item type;
    For instance, if the item type is LIBRARY BOOKS;the column D(Reference 1) should not be empty or Blank.It should contain the word LIB.similiar for other types. I want excel to color the blank cell depending upon the item type.can i achieve this using VBA
    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Color Blank cells

    =LEFT(B2,3)

    Your example already shows Library as Lib in column D

    Maybe your example should show the how you want the final product to look like as well.

    May I ask why you want to colour code the blank cells? Is it to be able to correct them easily later?
    How many colours are involved?
    Is this for xl2003 or xl2007
    Should Reference1 alway be the first three letters of the Item Type?

    Any color can be used. My requirement is to color BLANK CELLS based on the ITEM TYPE & REFERENCE(No.).
