    Excel VBA book recommendations?

    Hello,

Right now I'd say I'm a borderline intermediate/advanced excel user and at my current job I will be expected to write macros. What book would you all recommend for someone who is very new to programming but wants to learn VBA mainly for office applications, and more specifically for Excel? Greatly appreciate the input. Thanks!

Start with the VBA for Dummies book first and master the basic concepts before going to the Power Programming version.

    Follow this basic approach:
    1. Record macros and review the code - it will not be efficient code, but useful for learning
    2. Post to the Forum for review and help
    3. Google - VBA tutorials
    4. Read - a lot
    5. Practice and learn from your mistakes
    6. Have the patience to endure learning something new from the ground up

    Re: Excel VBA book recommendations?

For pure VBA, the 'VBA Developers Handbook' by Getz and Gilbert is hard to beat.
For Excel-specific, the Power Programming series by J-Walk, Bill Jelen's books, or the Wrox Press Excel 200n VBA series are good apart from, unfortunately, the 2003 version. I'd get the 2007 version for that, or the 2002 one if you have no plans to upgrade anytime soon.
And then when you've mastered all that, you can move onto PED...
