I am a new user but have made some head way on my project: select a file, modify the format in excel, save the ouput.
I have begun by using "record macro" and found some help with the file selection using Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker)
Does this automatically open the file for modification? Once the file is selected can I then start immediately to move columns and insert formulas etc. ?

No, you would want to use msoFileDialogOpen to have the file chosen immediately opened.
