Hide file menu ribbon excel 2010

    Hi all,

I am currently porting some code from an odler version of excel to 2010.

I have a requirement to hide all the built in tabs and show a custom one, which for 99% of the way I have done using the xml for the ribboon.
I am having issues howerver hiding the "file" tab on the ribbon, I dont think this can be done the xml and I cant find any VBA to do this (have to work in vba as there's a lot of code and I'm buggered if I'm converting it all )

So please let me know how I do this in either the ribbon xml or some vba code

    Thanks

    Dave

I don't think you can remove the File tab. It's like the old Office button, always there.

See Ron de Bruin's info on the Backstage view

Ah thats rubbish isnt it. is there a way then of disabling it? Basically they want the sheet as locked down as it can be in terms of menus etc

I haven't messed with Excel '10 yet but if it's like '07, you should be able to disable most of the features of the file tab through xml markup. The rondebruin link should provide good info for doing that.
