    Numerical Data and Words

I have a spreadsheet I am hoping to get some help with? Basically, I have a database with a combination of numeric and text values. I want to be able to put a flag at the top, like a "1" or something, so I can simply pick the dataset I want and if I flag it with a "1", it will feed a seperate spreadsheet and enter data in the appropriate field. I have no problem doing this with numeric values, but if I try to do it for text, it won't work. Any help is appreciated.

    Hello bmc1975,

    Welcome to the Forum!

You should include a before and after example in your next post. f you can post your workbook, that would be even better.
    Sincerely,
    Leith Ross

    Re: Numerical Data and Words

I am not sure what is meant by before and after and I am not sure how to post the workbook.

In any event, On sheet 1 I have data specific to apartment communities arranged in columns. Each column is a different community. The data contained within that column is a mix of text and numeric values. The very top row of this sheet is blank, where I use a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc as a "flag". If I flag it as a "1", ideally it puts the specific cell contents in a worksheet somewhere else in the file. For numeric values, it works fine, using the following: SUMIF(N!$D$1:$CM$1,1,N!D15). "N" is the worksheet with the raw data by column, "1" refers to the flag used, and "N!D15) is the specific cell referenced. For numbers, no problem, but if i reference to a cell w/ text for "N!D15" it only brings back "0" in the destination cell.

    Re: Numerical Data and Words

I have attached the excel file which illustrates a quick sample of what I am trying to accomplish. Sheet 1 has the raw data, Sheet 2 is the production table I am trying to generate. As you can see, for numeric references the "sumif" function works fine, but I can't figure out how to do the text values? Please help, its urgent....
