How to count the number of times a date appears in a column

    Hello.

On my accounting spreadsheet, I show the dates that each individual order was made. So my spreadsheet would look like this:

    01/02/2010.......
    01/02/2010.......
    01/02/2010.....
    02/02/2010.....
    02/02/2010.......
    03/02/2010.....
    03/02/2010.....
    etc

I would like to know any formulas that would automatically count the number of orders that were made on a certain date:

    01/02/2010 - 3
    02/02/2010 - 2
    03/02/2010 - 2

I have tried the COUNTIF and the COUNTIFS function as I believe this formulas to be the correct ones to use, but I am having very little luck getting them to work. Help please?!

    Thanks
