Need an excel macro that dynamically changes a chart in PowerPoint Presentation mode

    Hi,
I was not sure where to post this because I do not know what kind of macro is the best to handle this

We would like to show a chart in PowerPoint that is dynamic. I am not sure if this is an excel macro, a PowerPoint macro, or some kind of Excel embedded in PowerPoint running in the background.

What we want to do is take a chart of several items that appear or disappear from the chart when a checkbox form or activex control is checked. We want this to work in presentation mode of PowerPoint. We want to be able to show the audience all the items and be able to select any order or combination of items and have the chart change based on those selections.

A picture is worth a thousand words so I have included an excel file that generically shows what I am trying to do.

I guess my first question is can I make this excel functionality from my file appear in a PowerPoint presentation and be able to check the boxes while presenting? Anyone know if this is possible or how to do this?

Why don't you simply launch Excel (and the correct workbook) from Powerpoint. Excel would be displayed on the screen and you click on your filters, etc and show how things work. When you close Excel you are back in Powerpoint.

Making Powerpoint drive Excel increases the problem potential.

Another way to accomplish this is to take screen shots of your Excel screens and use them in the slide show. If someone in the audience complains then run Excel and do it from Excel.

Launching Excel is an option, but not what they want to see, this is going to be a very formal meeting and they want it all in powerpoint, very professional looking. I have surfed the web and seen a couple of functions where you can run a spreadsheet in presentation mode, but it must be an extreamly old tool as it does not allow for charts.

The second option you suggested is a good one, but time consuming and really impossible, we will have 10 + programs which gives 10! possible combinations. 10! = 10x9x8x7x6x5x4x3x2x1 = 3,628,800 slides and I my wife is getting tired of me comming home from work late.

Save your marriage at all costs!!!

You said "Very Professional" and this is the key. If you jump to Excel and ask the audience how they want to slice and dice and sort the data and be able to accomplish it - to me this is "professional". When they are convinced you can do what you claim and give them the answers they ask for, you jump back to Powerpoint and continue the next topic.

In this way you present large topics from Powerpoint and drill down to specifics using Excel.

I just answered another question dealing with Crystal Reports at: http://www.crystalreports.com/produc...e-products.asp
Play the videos on this page and see if they are what you want. I'm an Excel guy and have no knowledge about the linked software. It seems too good to be true but is kind of what you are asking for.

Here is another link that may be useful:

Thanks for the links, I am looking into these, I hope there is some way to do this, would think that Microsoft with all the power of excel and excel macros would have made it so you can do this.

I'm with Marvin on this one.
Just go into excel and due the data/charting part of the presentation.

And I really hope you don't have to demonstrate all of those 3,628,800 charts!
    Cheers
