Pull row data across to column

    Hi All,

Here is my issue. I receive this excel file and in the example on tab named "Main" is how I receive the data, about 70,000 rows. Column I has the different categories, for each group of names, as you see not all categories are there for each name. I want to from column J to AG copy all the data and move to the next blank column and on the same row paste this information and then move to the next row for the same name and do the same moving to the next blank column. Than once that name is done delete those rows and move to the next name. So really I need one row per person, some cases this will not work.

Please see example tab for output.

    Thanks
    James

Re: Pull row data across to column

    Hi,

You can do this by using Microsoft Excel's Pivot tables. Please see attached for example.

If you want a quick solution, just paste all your 70K rows into sheet 'Main' and refresh the pivot table.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

    pr4t3ek,

Yes, that does work great. I tried making pivot table out of the data before and I was unsuccessful, I am using Excel 2007. I have tried to re-create what you have but have had no luck dupilcating this. I am going to try in Excel 2003 and go from there. I did paste all my rows of data into your pivot table and yes, I get the results I am looking for.

Thanks so much. Let me play around here and see if I can creat this from scratch.

No problem, you should definitely be able to do this in Excel 2007.

Please mark this post as 'SOLVED' also.
