how to protect cells but still (only) able to select them

I am looking for a code that makes it possible to select cells (as part of commandbutton requests), but not be able to change anything like adding/changing fills, font, merging etc....

So, basically the same as status Protected but with the possibility to select the cells.

Protecting the sheet and ticking the boxes

    Select Locked Cells
    Select Unlocked Cells

This is the default on most machines. Does this not work for you?

    If not why?
