How to send data to another sheet.

I'm setting up a database using several excel sheets (at the current time access is not an option). all of the sheets have to report to one master sheet. I don't want the master to have to reference all of the other sheets, because the file names change every 44 days. I would like to know if it's possible to have data in one sheet sent to another sheet rather than the second sheet simply referencing it? If it is possible, it it possible for excel 2003.

    Hello Meratiogerr,

    Welcome to the Forum!

How do the file names affect linking the sheets?
    Sincerely,
    Leith Ross

Sorry, used the wrong term. information is not in different sheets, it's in different files. I want to have one file send data to another file.

    Hello Meratiogerr,

First, you will need a macro to open the directory were these files are stored. The data will then need to be extracted from each file and pasted into the master workbook. I would need to know the layout the file to be read and where the information will be copied into the master workbook. Can you post a copy of the master and one the files to be read?

Re: How to send data to another sheet.

The files I have are too large to upload, but heres what's happening. The goal is track attendance through a student population. each class has a workbook, then there is a master workbook. Right now I'm using vlookup in the master to reference data from the class workbooks, but everytime a term change happens and a student moves from one class to another I have to go back to the file and change the cell reference for every student, which gets tedious. Since the master would never change name it would be easier to have the class files put the info into it, rather than having the master go get the information it wants. I'll see if I can cut out some of the non-esentials on the workbooks and upload them to get a better idea of what I want to do.
