changing cell values to convert from $ to £

hi all

i have set up a spreadsheet to export data from a website and refresh it whenever i need to. A problem i have found though is some of the information is currency, and in this particular instance US $. I am wanting to convert the $ into £, and usually this is a very easy process for me, but the data which is updated from the website contains the information US$ before the amount eg US$51.80

At the minute i am unable to convert this due to the text in the cell. is there any way of formatting the cell to take away the US$ so i can then convert into £?

Click ctrl+H and replace US$ with nothing

Do a Global Replace; Find what: US$, Replace with: leave blank.

That should change the text to numbers. Format as dollars.

Thank you very much, its working great now. Ive been trying to solve this for a few days now with no success, and i come on here and get a solution immediately. this makes my spreadsheet alot easier to update.
