Populate Date a1 - a2

I want when I type a name into cell A1 the date will populate into A2

I found the below code which works for columns but i need somthing like below to work on individule cells.

Also i need it to time satmp not to change when I reopen the document

Oops I messed up when posting the origial question... My apologies

Say I type anything in a1 I want the current date to populate into a2

Example
A1 = Hello
A2 = 12/20/2010

When you edit a post you have to let it be known that you did that.... You originally had A1 and place the date in B1

You have to bare with me im not great with excel..

I mis-typed my first request.... I changed it... Sorry

If I type Hello (or anything) in A1 i want the date to populate in A2

Example
A1 = Hello
A2 = 12/10/2010 ---- Format(Now, "mm/dd/yy")
