Add-in Compatibility

    Hello,

Just got a new computer. I have some add-ins I was using with excel 2000 (one .xla file was written in late 2000 and the other in late 2001). What is the latest version of excel these will be compatible with?

I have Windows 7 Professional and have installed Office 2000 in XP mode but running them in that is getting old already.

One of these add-ins can't be replaced so basically it will dictate which version of Office I upgrade to.

    Thanks!

    Re: Add-in Compatibility

Reckon it's hard to say without knowing what they actually do and seeing the code. A lot of stuff from back then will still work fine but things were dropped from VBA in 2007 like FileSearch so they could bomb.

I think the only way you're really going to know is to try them assuming you can't ask whoever wrote them in the first place.

Use code tags when posting your VBA code:
Your code here
The chances are they will work with the latest, though any menus they create will only be viewable in the Addins Tab of Excel 2007 +.
    Hope that helps.

    Re: Add-in Compatibility

    Domski,

Have lost contact with the developer and would prefer not to buy multiple versions of excel.

The add-ins do mathematical simulations with data from one worksheet and then write the results to other worksheets. I think there might be some reading and writing from the original worksheet to others during the process.

So based on what you're saying, excel 2003 would be the safest bet?

    Re: Add-in Compatibility

Do you not know anyone with 2007/10 you could try it on? As I said a few things have changed but like Roy I'd expect them to work in later versions. It hardly seems worth upgrading to 2003.

    Re: Add-in Compatibility

    Roy,

Right now each add-in creates a pull down menu on the uppermost toolbar (where file, edit, help, etc. are). Are you saying that might not happen in 2007+?

    Dom,

I don't know anyone (near me) with the Windows versions. It would absolutely be worth the upgrade to 2003 for me if I could run them directly from Windows 7 without having to use XP mode.

    Re: Add-in Compatibility

The menus will be in the Addins Tab. Of the newest versions I would use Excel 2010, not Excel 2007

Do you have the addin that you can upload?
