How to use excel in student placement...

    Hi there,

Assume that there is an exam and students want to register their choices (departments).

It needs creating such an excel file that can assign students to their choices (A, B, C, D & E) considering/according to scores of them.

There are approximately 300 students and the capacities of groups for winners and backups/reserves for each choice are the same.

    They are as follow:
    # of winners for each choice: A = 30, B = 15, C = 15, D = 15 & E = 15
    # of reserves for each choice: F = 30, G = 15, H = 15, I = 15 & J = 15

Each student should be in just one choice list, or its related reserves.

Now, I wonder, which properties of Excel (functions, macros etc) do I need to know and use?

And where can I find their videos or documents about how to do?

Thank you very much for your time and efforts.

Can you set up a sample workbook demonstrating what you are looking for?
Is your code running too slowly?
Does your workbook or database have a bunch of duplicate pieces of data?
Have a look at this article to learn the best ways to set up your projects.
It will save both time and effort in the long run!

Can a student be both a winner and a reserve?

    Dear Dave,

When a student is a winner, it is not necessary to assign his/her to any reserve category. It is o.k. for him or her. Excel will not anything for this student.

However, if (when) a student is not a winner, s/he can be reserve for all choices, until s/he is assigned as winner to his/her any choice. It means, until a student is assigned as winner, s/he can be assigned a student to his/her all choices as reserve. I mean, whenever s/he is assigned as winner, Excel will stop.

In either event, students' scores and choices are criteria to consider.

It is good to hear from you.

    Dear Dave,

In Turkish, pronounciation of your name means "Giant", indeed for me "You are Great"
it was exactly what i want it to do.
If i can do anything for you from Hatay-Turkey, please tell me.

    Thank you very very much.
