Disabling Applciation Visible?

I have put in the workbook open to open userform and then Applciation.visible = false.

The problem i Have now is i cant seem to make exel visible to amend or edit anything? Is there a simple way of being able to do this? I tried opening in notepad but it was just jibberish?
