Cell color change

I am using Excel 2000 at work. (they can’t afford to yank themselves into the 21 century)
I’m trying to change the color of a cell by using the word in another cell. Example: If the word in G4 is Warranty, then cell E4 should be Red. If the word Warranty is not present in cell E4, no color in E4.
I put this in E4 but it didn’t work.
=IF(G4="WARRANTY","red","NO COLOR")
What is the secret?

You cant just type "red" and expect it to color itself. You can use conditional formatting.

In short...Conditional formatting using the 'Formula Is option. i.e. in the conditional format for E4 enter

Remember that's a conditional format and NOT the formula in E4.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry it took so long to get back to this. However, I am trying to change the color of the cell, not the color of the font in the cell.

It's your choice in Cond-Form, what you want to chance(font or pattern, or both of these together)
