Hard? SUM the values of a column that matches a flag in an adjacent column

I try to make a table here ...:

I need to sum VALUES of a certain trimester (1 2 3 or 4)
So I have something like:
Sum of trimester 1°: 45
Sum of trimester 2°: 81
Sum of trimester 3°: 20
Sum of trimester 4°: 16

I'm getting crazy with LOGIC and SEARCH functions and I don't know how to solve this ...
The next step will be to search into a DATE RANGE instead of 1-2-3-4 ... but I actually want to start from the easy part.

Try a Pivot Table.

What version of Microsoft Excel are you using?

Or maybe use SUMIF()
e.g.

Drag down as required

ROW(A1) returns 1 and as it is dragged down it increments by one .... so 1,2,3, etc
You can replace ROW(A1) with a specific cell reference if you want or need to.

I have to manage to do this on Google Documents, but before that I want to make it in excel that is more complete. I use Open Office 3.3 at home. Is that ok ?
