When I open an Excel 2003 workbook in Excel 2007, I get the above error. I have tried to uncheck it, but get the message "can't remove control or reference; in use". I do not need this library in the spreadsheet. How can I remove this reference?

What's missing?
Have you any ActiveX controls in the workbook?
In the VBA EDitor check Tools-> References & ee if any are marked missing, if so de-select them
Hope that helps.

No ActiveX and when I go to References, there is nothing missing.
Hi,
Can you insert a new userform into the workbook's project?
Good luck.
Yes, I can insert a new userform, but I do not use nor want userforms. The compile error message appears in a workbook with calculations and references to external Aspen IP21 data which is downloaded into my spreadsheet after I update. But before it will update, I have to go through the two dialog boxes. This is bothersome and to add to the problem, at times it makes changes to my formulas by adding a path to my C drive with reference to an xla file. After this happens, I have to edit formulas to remove the path and then copy into other rows. I guess I could delete the FM20.DLL file from the system 32 folder, but I am unsure if it will affect anything else besides forms.
Inserting a user form usually sets the Forms reference for you so, if it works OK in your project, I cannot really see that there is anything wrong with your fm20.dll
but then if you don't have userforms or activeX controls, you should not need the reference anyway.
What references do you have set in the workbook? Also, what is the .xla file to which you see the path reference? (when you use formulas in an .xla the path is always stored but you cannot see it as long as the xla is loaded.)
This is the .xla file: 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\LIBRARY\AtData.xla'! I have the following references:
Visual Basics for Applications, MS Excel 12.0 Object Library, OLE Automation, MS Office 12.0 Object Library, MS Forms 2.0 Object Library, PI Data Object 1.1 Type Library, PI Trend 1.0 Type Library, PITrendXL, Aspen Data Source Locator, PI Excel Data Control, PI-BatchTrend Type Library, PI-ProcessBook Type Library, AspenProcessDataAddin
